Meet the Doctors
Dr. Carolyn Chang
Dr. Carolyn Chang is a native of Maryland and grew up in Montgomery County. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Georgetown University and is also a Registered Nurse (RN). Dr. Chang then went on to complete her dental education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine. After graduating from dental school, she completed a General Practice Residency at the Washington DC VA Medical Center where she provided comprehensive dental care to veterans.
Dr. Chang practiced as a general dentist for several years before she realized that her passion was working with children. She then chose to further her education and dedicate her career to children’s dental needs by completing a Pediatric Dental Residency at the University of Maryland. Her residency training comprised all aspects of pediatric dentistry, including nitrous oxide anxiolysis, conscious oral and IV sedation, hospital dentistry, trauma management, early interceptive orthodontic treatment, and treatment of special health care needs patients.
Dr. Chang is passionate and dedicated to providing the highest quality pediatric dentistry in a child-friendly environment while building trusting relationships with patients and parents. Her unique training allows her to use techniques that help to reduce fear, and promoting a positive attitude towards dentistry in a comfortable and fun environment.
Dr. Chang also finds great satisfaction in volunteer work and giving back to the community. She has participated in a dental mission trip to Honduras as well as treating patients in underserved communities with a local organization called Hope for Tomorrow.
Dr. Chang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is an active member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Outside of the office, Dr. Chang enjoys spending time with her family and loves to travel the world as well as explore new cuisines with her husband Bryan, a former 3-time Olympic swimmer for South Korea.
Dr. Minhthu Phan
Dr. Minhthu Phan was born in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to Rockville, MD, when she was nine years old. She graduated from Richard Montgomery High School, where she was a starting player for the Rockets volleyball team. Based on her dental experiences as a child, Dr. Phan has known since she was little that she wanted to be a dentist. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and received the pediatric dental award for exemplifying qualities of ethical standards, kindness, and humanitarianism as well as dedication, service, and empathy to the underserved child populations in Maryland.
After dental school, Dr. Phan completed a one-year general dentistry practice residency at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in New York where she became well-versed in the comprehensive dental care of adolescents and adults. She returned to the University of Maryland for her specialty training in pediatric dentistry, where she served as chief resident. Her training and hands-on experience ranged from conscious sedation to emergency room dentistry to dealing with the special needs of medically compromised children.
Dr. Phan is currently a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is a member of the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
A devoted Montgomery County resident, Dr. Phan and her family currently reside in Olney, Maryland. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Phan enjoys the outdoors through hiking and gardening, cake decorating, and spending time with family and friends.
